VSL

Prestressed Concrete Design and Engineering Support

For the construction of a prestressed concrete tank, VSL may assist the owner’s structural engineer in the design of the tank or work directly from the specification provided by the owner’s engineer. VSL can also provide a performance specification with owner-defined design requirements for design-build delivery.

VSL can provide many shapes to suit the project needs including circular, rectangular, and rectangular with rounded corners. Egg-shaped digesters, irregular-shaped polygons, or ovals can also be constructed – there are no practical limitations with this method of construction of prestressed concrete tanks.

Economical capacities have been constructed ranging from 250,000 gallons to over 30,000,000 gallons. The wall can have any architectural finish, form liner, or coating to match existing structures and flat concrete roofs, aluminum domes, or concrete domes are available to suit the customer’s needs.

Challenging site conditions can also be accommodated. A prestressed concrete tank delivered by VSL can be fully-buried, partially-backfilled, built above-grade, in sloped backfill or in conditions where the ground water is above the tank floor – the design of the DuraStor™ prestressed concrete post-tensioned tank is adaptable to any of these conditions.

The design methodology and structural detailing of prestressed concrete tanks is well-developed to address seismic concerns. Concrete structures, and particularly prestressed concrete tanks, have the proven ability to withstand severe earthquakes.
